Historically speaking fountains of any kind have been a mark of luxury and opulence, but lately they have grown far more accessible than at any other time in human history. Indoor fountains can be found everywhere from living rooms to the entrances to corporate headquarters in every major city and even small towns across North America. Whereas once a fountain was so expensive that all fountains that were built for public use were named after the millionaire benefactor, today one can literally order a miniature tabletop fountain for $19.95.
This shift in accessibility and cost has had a number of subtle yet interesting effects on our society as a whole. Now that indoor fountains are so prevalent around the nation average Americans are hardly amazed by them any longer, they just seem to have lost their mystery. At the same time workers from an environment that utilizes indoor water fountains have reported less stress permeating their daily grind and more satisfaction. The simple addition of positive white noise that reminds people of getting back to nature goes a long way toward improving their moods and even attracting new people into the zone of saturation.
These are just some of the recent developments that have arisen thanks to an increase in private fountain use by the middle and lower classes, rather than just exclusively wealthy individuals. It shall be very interesting to see what the future may hold once people are totally familiar with regular placement of running water in all sorts of environments and settings. With the fountains still hold their therapeutic qualities or shall they be lost when all the mystery is gone once more?
